Wondering what Teeth in a Day® is? We speak with many patients who want to understand more about this procedure, in order to determine whether or not it’s right for them.
At PGA Dentistry, we tailor treatment to both your smile and your needs. Understanding the various replacement teeth options available to you helps you make an informed decision that fits your needs and lifestyle.
Immediately Following Your Treatment
Patients who have Teeth in a Day® usually feel moderate to mild discomfort following the procedure. Always ask your surgeon for recommendations if you’re concerned about dealing with aches and pains. Over the counter pain relievers can reduce the pressure you’re experiencing.
The Recovery Process
Take it Easy on Yourself
After your appointment, you should plan to spend the remainder of the day relaxing. You’ll most likely be drowsy if you’ve been given a sedative. As a result, you should avoid driving or doing anything else that demands focus.
It’s also crucial to stay away from rigorous activities. Avoid bending or lifting anything that could cause the blood clots to dislodge. This kind of activity can cause bleeding.
Keep an Eye on What You Eat
After surgery, it’s best to eat cool, soft meals. Oatmeal and yogurt are two popular dietary options. You want to avoid foods that are too:
- Hot
- Cold
- Tough
- Chewy
- Spicy
Stop the Flow of Blood
For the first day or so following surgery, you may have some bleeding. To address this, gently bite on folded gauze for a few moments. Call your dentist or oral surgeon if the bleeding lasts longer than 24 hours or is so thick that the gauze needs to be changed more frequently.
Take Your Pain Relievers
In the immediate aftermath of the procedure, you may need relief from any pain you’re experiencing.
Depending on how severe the pain is, this will require either getting a prescription from your dentist, or getting an over-the-counter pain treatment such as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs).
Regardless of the option you choose, your pain should subside within 48 hours.
Pay Close Attention to Any Symptoms You Experience
Keep an eye out for any issues that last more than a couple of days, such as an infection, swelling, or fever. Also, keep an eye out for any issues with your breathing or swallowing.
These symptoms may indicate that you’ve had an allergic response to the anesthesia given to you by the dentist. If this is the case, contact your dentist immediately and proceed to the emergency room.
If you have any doubts, always check with your dentist’s office to ensure that all your inquiries have been answered.
Make sure you get all the information you require, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
